Success continues in Spain’s World Cup qualifying campaign

La Roja’s victory in Georgia’s World Cup qualifying match against Spain on Saturday 15 November all but ensured their qualification for the 2026 World Cup. European champions La Furia Roja have 15 points from five games after winning 4-0 on Saturday.

Needless to say, they topped the qualifying group. On current form, they are one of the three best national teams in Europe, alongside France and Norway.

Georgia VS Spain achieves another perfect record

After Georgia’s dominant victory against Spain, Espanyol have scored a whopping 19 goals in qualifying so far. The most surprising fact is that they haven’t made any concessions yet. This is an excellent record even considering that the Spaniards don’t have much competition in the group apart from Turkey.

Mikel Oyarzabal scored twice in Spain’s win over Georgia. The 28-year-old Oyarzabal has scored 5 goals in the qualifiers. Overall, he scored 21 goals in 50 games for the Spanish national team. The Real Sociedad striker will be one of the key players for the team heading into the 2026 World Cup. He will be assisted by one of the most exciting winger tandems in the world right now in Lamin Yamar and Nico Williams.

Martin Zubimendi has also cemented his place in the Spanish national team with his name on Saturday’s goal sheet. With Rodri having been plagued by injuries of late, it is now up to Zubimendi, Pedri and Fabian Ruiz to dictate the terms of the midfield, which they have been happily doing.

The Spaniard’s defensive stability is an underrated trait. The fact that they had the ball mainly helped their defenders reorganize themselves. They have two very capable full-backs in Pedro Polo and Marc Cucurella, and Robin Le Normand is a very reliable centre-back. Goalkeeper Unai Simon was not used often but usually performed well when needed.

Can Spain win the World Cup again in 2026?

Spain is undoubtedly one of the favorites to win the 2026 World Cup. Espanyol are one of the best teams on paper and their recent form has been second to none. Many teams these days play possession football, but few others can pass the ball around as effortlessly as Espanyol.

Still, success at big events always comes down to a few big nights in the latter stages. In this way, it is as much a question of courage and temperament as it is of ability.

The benefit for Spain is that they will retain most of the players who won Euro 2024 in Germany for the 2026 World Cup.

Players like Rodri and Pedri have already won important titles for their respective clubs and will provide the necessary experience for Espanyol’s World Cup journey. Luis de la Fuente is a level-headed coach who knows how to get the best out of his players.

If Georgia’s game against Spain showed anything, it’s that the Spaniards overall look promising and that they are indeed one of the superpowers in world football.
