Raheem Sterling leaving Chelsea is what is about to happen. The English winger spent two memorable seasons at Chelsea before being loaned out to Arsenal. However, since leaving Manchester City, Sterling’s performance has not been particularly impressive.
Raheem Sterling’s decision to leave Chelsea was finalized on Wednesday, January 28. For a player who has played for four big clubs – Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal – becoming a free agent at the age of 31 is not ideal.
Raheem Sterling leaves Chelsea amid continued poor performances
Raheem Sterling’s exit from the Royal Blues comes amid continued poor performances from Chelsea and Arsenal. Sterling has scored just 20 goals in 109 games between his two London clubs. He scored the only goal in 28 appearances for Arsenal, a rather forgettable experience.
That’s a far cry from the 131 goals he scored in 339 games for Manchester City, with whom he won four Premier League titles. Sterling also made 82 appearances for the England national team, scoring 20 goals.
It should be a travesty for such a decorated footballer to not play football in his early thirties. He should be available for recruitment by any smaller club in the near future, but it can be assumed without a doubt that he is unlikely to be recruited by any top club.
Sterling’s game relies heavily on pace and good link-up with the centre-forwards while playing as a winger. He can also play on the wing and as a center forward, making him a versatile footballer.
For a player who has made over 550 appearances and scored 174 goals in England’s top flight, leaving the club is not an ideal way to go. Raheem Sterling’s departure from Chelsea comes after he was sidelined at the club and forced to train separately from the rest of the squad.

Which club should be Sterling’s ideal destination at the moment?
Sterling could go to any of the smaller Premier League clubs in England. He should have a few more years left as a football player. Currently, Leeds United have been linked with the Englishman. Leeds United wouldn’t be a bad club for Sterling as they have been playing in the Premier League recently. Napoli are now the preferred destination for a number of former Premier League players and are also reportedly interested in signing him.
Sterling’s wealth of experience could come in handy for any smaller club that doesn’t have such talented footballers playing for them on a regular basis. Raheem Sterling’s departure from Chelsea could open up a new path for him. His aim should be to play in the Premier League until he is 35 and, therefore, he should target offers from clubs that can avoid relegation.
Whether Sterling can secure such a move anytime soon remains to be seen. By now, football lovers all over the world are hoping that he will entertain them with his performances on the pitch for a few seasons.
