Shocking tackle saw Tottenham captain sent off and handed a four-match suspension

Tottenham captain Christian Romero will miss the next four games following his sending off against Manchester United and recent comments about the club’s squad issues.

The issue was dealt with internally after the Argentinian posted on social media, with Spurs boss Thomas Frank retaining faith in the defender.

Romero was expected to be the leader of the defence, but his game ended prematurely as he made a strong tackle on Casemiro in the 29th minute and was shown a red card for dangerous action.

A red card like this would normally result in a three-match ban, but with the Argentinian already having been sent off this season, Cristian Romero’s suspension means Tottenham will be without their captain for four important games.

Romero has been sent off twice in the Premier League this season. His first red card came in a 2-1 loss to Liverpool in December, when he received two yellow cards.

Romero will miss Tottenham’s next four domestic games due to two red cards this season, and his suspension started when Newcastle United visited North London.

The former Juventus, Genoa and Atalanta defender will also miss a number of key games, including the north London derby against Arsenal, a home game against Crystal Palace and an away game against Liverpool.

Romero won’t return to domestic action until Tottenham face Nottingham Forest in March, but he will be eligible for Champions League last-16 games against Juventus, Galatasaray, Atletico Madrid or Club Brugge.

This latest red card is Romero’s sixth since joining Tottenham, four of which have appeared in Premier League games. It means he has now equaled the club’s record for most red cards in a competition.

Cristian Romero suspended: Should Spurs consider selling him?

The timing of Cristian Romero’s suspension is bad news for Tottenham Hotspur, but it may please rival fans.

He has always been a divisive player among Spurs fans. He has shown moments of brilliance at both ends of the pitch since arriving at Tottenham, but he has also struggled with discipline.

Even though Romero was sent off, he still had a great season. He has scored six goals and assisted four more goals for his teammates.

Recent reports suggested that Romero could leave Tottenham in the summer, with the defender having a number of European suitors, and Christian Romero’s suspension adding fuel to the rumors.

Cristian Romero suspension and transfer update: La Liga showing interest

Romero thanked the fans after Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City in the Premier League, but it looks like La Liga sides are interested in him and he may leave London this summer.

The 27-year-old Romero is in the best period of his career and his offensive style is unlikely to change as it is just part of his game and cannot be easily eliminated by coaches.

Tottenham Hotspur now face a tough choice as they must decide whether the defender’s contribution on the pitch is worth the risk of a red card and Cristian Romero’s continued suspension following a yellow card.

Unless Romero pushes for a transfer, it seems unlikely that head coach Thomas Frank will let go of such an important player.

Cristian Romero suspended: Tottenham could face defensive challenge

Tottenham could have problems if their two main centre-backs leave. Mickey van de Veen has often been linked with a move away, and losing him and Cristian Romero will leave the team short-handed defensively.

Even if van de Veen stays, his injury history makes him less reliable and he’s not always fully healthy.

Keeping Romero for at least one season would give Spurs more stability and allow the club to plan for a new centre-back without putting the defense at serious risk.
