Medellin, Tolima gain invisible points; Santa Fe enters playoffs

The Colombian Liga BetPlay Dimayor is ready to stage a fun football feast as the 2025 Autumn League playoffs kick off. The top eight teams have been determined, the playoff draws have been made and fans can finally take a breather – they are about to experience the most exciting weeks of the season as passion, skill and drama collide across the country.

Medellin and Tolima Destroyers secure stealth points

The league simultaneously determines the kickoff time of the final game for playoff spots, as well as the coveted “stealth spot,” a special advantage that allows the top two teams in each group to advance directly if they are tied at the end of the playoffs. Fans can watch all matches on the YouTube channel of Colombia’s national sports broadcaster Win Sports.

Atletico Tolima are regional favorites from Ibagu and Di Maior for the 2024 final, while Colombia’s in-form rivals Independiente Medellín have both secured invisible points. Tolima defeated Aguilas Doradas 2-1. 21-year-old striker Mauricio Gonzalez gave Tolima an early lead and, after a frantic final 15 minutes, held on to hold on for a 2-0 win despite Doradas’ 93rd-minute consolation. Tolima ended the regular season with five straight wins, six wins from seven, and only three goals allowed.

Medellín Independiente ended the regular season with a record of 12 wins, 4 draws and 4 losses. Having just qualified for the Colombian Cup finals, they displayed the most powerful attack in the FPC. Brayan Leon was involved in the goal and Alexis Serna added two more goals to deny América Cali a reply. Medellin has not lost since losing 5-2 to Atlético Nacional in the El Clasico – a matchup fans will soon be able to see again.

Millionaires are the biggest names to miss out on La Liga BetPlay Dimayor playoffs

The Bogota club Millionaires stumbled to a disappointing 12th place finish (7-5-8) after a poor start. The departure of key figures such as Daniel Ruiz, who was on loan to CSKA Moscow, prevented the team from launching an effective attack. The Blue Ballet feel they are still a long way from Radamel Falcao’s triumphant return to the club and their fans are demanding better as they look to be on the same level as other “big” clubs such as Atlético Nacional, América de Cali and Juniors.

Other clubs are facing difficulties off the pitch: Deportivo Pereira has experienced a financial crisis and is for sale, while bottom-placed La Equidad will be renamed under new American investors. Led by Dairo Moreno, Deportivo Calida and Caldas performed strongly in the Copa Sudamericana but also missed the playoffs.

Defending champion Santa Fe can still defend its title

Bogotá’s other strong side, Santa Fe, made it to the quarterfinals thanks to the outstanding performance of Harold Mosquera, whose crucial goal decided the entire season. His stoppage-time goal to eliminate Alianza and secure playoff berth may not be as widely known as his heroics in the previous game, but it was just as decisive. Santa Fe won three straight games to advance to the playoffs.

Mosquera has 10 goals and 6 assists this season, while 40-year-old veteran Hugo Rodallega continues to prove his quality in 2025 with 21 goals. América Cali also recovered from severe financial difficulties, driven by Peruvian Luis Ramos (12 goals), to seal a playoff spot after a poor start to the season.

Colombian Cup final to be confirmed on Sunday

Despite having home advantage, América Cali still face the difficult task of overturning a 4-1 aggregate deficit against Atlético Nacional. Nacional missed out on an invisible point in their final regular-season game against Junior Barranquilla, who scored twice in the second half to stage a comeback after Alfredo Morelos opened the scoring. In the second half, Junior faced relentless pressure in hopes of coming back and winning 2-1.

Junior banned Atlético Nacional fans from their stadium, demonstrating the passion and threat they will carry into the playoffs. Vidoraga veterans Edwin Cardona and Maros Moreno continue to struggle at this stage of the season, and young goalkeeper Luis Marquinez also struggled on the night. Diego Arias’ teams are talented, but their level drops significantly depending on the lineup and the away game.

Group A The tougher of the two playoff groups

The playoff draw ceremony on Victory Sports Live has ended. Group A is the ‘Group of Death’, consisting of first- and third-placed Medellín Independiente and Atlético Nacional, who are expected to play at least two more Clasico games in a shared stadium. Junior and América Cali are also here, meaning three of the four teams in the Colombian Cup semi-finals are in the same group.

Group B is the “regional” group consisting of Atlético Tolima, Atlético Bucaramanga, defending champions Santa Fe and rising Fortaleza. These home and away games are notoriously unpredictable, and it’s possible to be crowned champion even without an impressive regular season.

Colombian fans can look forward to drama, talent and unforgettable moments, with this Clausura playoff series promising to be a festival of excitement, goals and unpredictability, which makes the Liga BetPlay Dimayor a unique attraction.
