Tips for dressing with confidence this fall

Just like that summer is over! This has been a very hectic thing for our family and we are now preparing my daughter for college. I was excited for her and sad for her at the same time.

I’m putting on a brave face by staying busy and embracing the new fall season. I love the seasonal fashion transitions and love seeing the stores transform – they’re already filled with gorgeous new fall styles. That’s why now is the ideal time to rethink your summer wardrobe.

Yes, you read that right! It’s easy to rush to buy the new season’s trends, but taking the time to jot down what you like to wear is key to creating future outfits you’ll love and wear with confidence.

Tips for dressing with confidence

You can do this:-

1. Take out all the styles you like to wear in the past six months. Place them on rails if available. Includes accessories and festive apparel. I would set aside an hour to do this so you can stay on task.

2. Try them all on And take note of how you feel when you wear them. If you can sum up your feelings in three words or less, even better.

3. Look for patterns, Quite literally, take a look at what’s on the track and see if there are any recurring themes. Is there a lot of bold colours, prints or textures or a specific style such as a statement top or maxi skirt? Write down two or three themes that you noticed.

4. Pay attention to the style that suits your body shape As well as any details on these costumes. Do they have a specific shape of neckline, waistband, leg shape, hemline, etc. Write down at least three key details.

5. Create a wish list. Now that you’ve noticed all of these details, consider how you can implement them into your fall wardrobe. For example, if you love wearing linen striped wide-leg pants in the summer, you could look for wide-leg patterned pants in a heavier fabric for fall.

How I helped Kate get out of “hiding” in the fall

Taking the time to think about what you would like to wear is the key to dressing with confidence as it allows your personality to shine through. Use these notes to shop with purpose and find pieces that match your personal style.

I did this with my client Kate during her wardrobe consultation. She loves wearing colors and prints in the summer, but her fall work wardrobe is filled with plain, dark pieces. She realized her image didn’t match her personal style, so she was “hiding”.

We added bolder colors and statement prints and she immediately felt more confident and liked herself. Not only did Kate feel great in her new outfit, it caught her attention, and her career has continued to grow ever since.

The most important part of dressing with confidence is having a wardrobe that feels like “you.” Do this today and you’ll feel more positive because of it – guaranteed!
